Madekwe comes from a mixed-race family from South London in England. The father of her is Nigerian and Swiss as well as the mother of her is English. Ashley's brothers were athletic and played baseball during summers and hockey in the winter. Ashley was not a walker, but she was a dancer. In the age of two and a half, she was introduced to Baby Ballet. Ashley discovered a love for dancing when she began Baby Ballet. When she was in high school, Ashley danced competitively in the highest divisions of ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acrobatics, lyrical, musical theatre and hip-hop. Every important dance competitions, including International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance which have awarded her the title "top individualist".
